This Month at Tingley Beach

Tingley Beach isn't just for fishing. Bring your family and explore the wildlife in this fascinating wetland ecosystem. The young lady in this photo has been known to bring home catfish almost as big as herself. She practices catch-and-release with the other wildlife, including this giant bullfrog.

  • Check out the NMDGF  web page (http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/) for current fish stocking information.

Wintering Waterfowl

Tingley Beach offers exceptional birding, especially for wintering waterfowl, this time of year. Bring your binoculars and see if you can spot the recent vistors listed below. Don't forget to check the wetlands in the Bosque, adjacent to the Tingley Beach ponds, in the afternoon for the more skittish waterfowl that do not prefer the company of fishing-folks.

  • Mallard
  • Ring-necked Duck
  • American Wigeon
  • Canada Goose
  • American Coot
  • Ruddy Duck
  • Redhead Duck
  • Pied-billed Grebe
  • Great Blue Heron

Did you know that porcupines live in New Mexico? Several native porcupines call the trees in the bosque near Tingley Beach home. It is easiest to see them when there are no leaves on the trees. Now is a great time to look. Watch for what looks like a large bird nest--look closer and you might see a porcupine nose!

For Persons with Mobile Disabilities

  • There is an accessible ramp at the Children's Pond for children with mobile disabilities. Adults with a mobile disability accompanying children who are fishing may find it easiest to assist their children by fishing off the wooden dock at the Children's Pond.
  • A wheelchair accessible ramp is available at the Central Pond in front of the Train Station. Preference is given to adults and children fishing with mobile disabilities.
  • The Model Boat Pond is accessible by a ramp to the water's edge.

Regulations and Security
